Serum Amyloid A (SAA) os an acute-phase protein. During acute phases of inflammation, the rise in SAA level is one of the most rapid and intense increases of all phase proteins. SAA is also the precursor of amyloid A protein, which carries a risk of organ failure and premature dealth in the course of secondary amyloidosis.
C-creative Protein(CRP) is a proven marker for inflammation, while serum anyloid A(SAA) is gaining propularity now as an inflammation marker. CRP and SAA tested together offer a clear picture on inflammation to guide medical treatments.
